BRETFORTON Ladies Hockey Club travelled to Gloucester on Sunday to take part in the annual six-a-side tournament run by the city's hockey club.
It is a tournament the Bretforton ladies team always seem to have success in and really enjoy.
This year proved to be no different and, led by captain for the day Sarah Benfield, they swept through the initial group stages with relative ease.
Convincing wins against Lydney, Painswick and Gloucester Seconds led to the Bretforton girls scoring nine goals and conceding just two.
The secondary group stage proved trickier for the Vale girls.
They lost to Cheltenham and won narrowly against Sherborne and Gloucester Firsts.
This was enough, however, to see them through to the premium final of the day - against their old adversaries Cheltenham.
The final was hard-fought and although Bretforton passed the ball around well it was the Cheltenham youngsters who deservingly won the game with a 2-0 victory, leaving the Vale girls runners-up.
All who participated enjoyed a great day out and Bretforton's Sophie Corbett was top-scorer with five goals in all with Andrea Cole just behind her on three for the day.
Virtually all of the squad chipped in with goals, however, and the club would like to thank Gloucester City HC for hosting a great day and offer their congratulations to Cheltenham HC for their victory.
