GLOUCESTERSHIRE County Council’s Libraries and Information department will launch its free ‘Ask Us’ service on Monday, December 1.

This information and reference service will enable Gloucestershire’s public library customers to ask a librarian for information on a wealth of subjects, either online or by telephone.

The service will be available from 9am until 5pm, Monday to Friday.

Customers can telephone 0845 230 5421 - with the call being charged at the local rate - or e-mail ask@gloucestershire.gov.uk or go to www.gloucestershire.gov.uk/libraries/ask Katie Smith, the department’s policy development officer, said: “If you find yourself bamboozled by web searching, then this service will work for you.

“There is a fantastic range of information sources for customers to use in our libraries and on our website.

“Our Ask Us service will make this information even more accessible by offering one telephone number or email address to use.

“We are aiming to provide customers with a professional and personalised service, giving reliable, fast and accurate information.

“Why not try it and let our team of information specialists support you using our skills and resources?”

Cllr Ron Allen, the council’s libraries cabinet member, said: “Gloucestershire County Council is a mine of information.

“Our ‘Ask Us’ service can help you find all those nuggets you’re looking for - and quickly.

“All those obscure addresses you’ve forgotten and articles you’ve half read and references you can’t quite remember the source of - our Libraries and Information ‘Ask Us’ can find what you’re seeking.

“And the service is free - just like the internet access facilities you’ll find in all our libraries across the county.

“Do use this great new service - you’ll be surprised how much we know!”
