THE Vale Golf Club Ladies Section has raised more than £4,000 for a breast cancer charity.

The captain, Jan Garratt, chose Breakthrough Breast Cancer as her charity of the year in memory of her mother Margaret Grimshaw, who died in 1972.

Through fund-raising events and donations, they raised £4,002.60 and Jan presented a cheque to Breakthrough’s local contact Sylvia Herbert.

Thanking the Ladies Section, Sylvia said: Cancer touches everyone’s life in one way or another.

“Breakthrough is very grateful to Jan and to everyone else who helped raise this magnificent sum.

“Breakthrough’s vision is a future free from the fear of breast cancer and this is a wonderful contribution to its research.”
