Dare I say that I want to support the Harvington/Lenches/Norton windfarm?

Climate change is a fact. People in poor countries around the World can tell how it is already disrupting their lives. We still have a chance of forestalling its worst effects if, during the next two decades at most, we wean ourselves off fossil fuels. That must mean taking every opportunity for renewable energy generation. And it simply isn’t true that the latest designs of wind turbines aren’t efficient.

It’s possible to allay some fears. Independent surveys show overall that, when windfarms are in place, 90% support them or aren’t concerned about them. Some visitors to windfarms have even called them elegant and relaxing to watch! As for noise, all turbines now have to meet strict standards, and generally don’t disturb people living only a few hundred metres away.

“Yes, but why here?” We don’t know if this site is a truly efficient choice, nor as yet exactly how many turbines, or how high, or where precisely within that area they would be placed. Nor about any possible effects on wildlife. But if the question really means “not in my backyard” then, as I’ve explained, we’ve got to move beyond that.

Patricia Woodcock, Harvington.

Scottish Power are the Nimbys in this instant. In Scotland and other European Countries their guideline is to keep 2km away from village boundaries. This they will not be doing at this site here in England if they are, god forbid granted planning. I am sure very few people are against Wind turbines as long as they are appropriately placed.

I tell you, since the time I have lived here, and thought we were friends that I have never encountered people who you thought were your friends but are so small minded. Where on earth do they get thier electricity from. Sorry there is no majic tree that will keep producing forever, we destroy the planet by our over consumption and it will not last forever. Unfortunately is from unrenewable sources which wont kill us but our our children. What a savioury thought! To make it worse there is more , local people who are trying to convince peole, without the true facts, that they are right. Cos they dont like it noone else can agree surely? so we just frighten people witless till they relent. keep it real! the lenchwick site has not yet been properly assessed for suitability and if its not suitable certain people have whipped up a frenzy unneccessary. If I was you, take my view, I will do my own research not base my decision on a bunch of people who want you to donate to a cause which is against a better way of living (guess there always has to a charity) and make your own decision! I am a local resident and am horrified at what seems to be an unfounded, scareemongering campaign and I can only see these people dont have a real perspective. Get the facts and I might consider, til then someone has to ensure that people keep perspective. Make up your own mind - the campaigns ongoing are unfounded and I woundnot waste your time. Sounds like an ego trip to me. A wind farm may not be suitable here and I havent made my decision but i refuse the yobbish few to make it for me
