FORWARD thinking Vale students proved themselves at the 2008 Youth Summit when they tackled some of the big issues for the future of Wychavon.

The event saw the youngsters have their say on the area they live in and what they would do if they ran the council.

Some of the big issues aired included encouraging business to recycle, concerns about the number of new houses proposed for the area and acting now to save the environment.

All of the ideas from the day, which was jointly organised by Wychavon DIstrict Council and Worcestershire County Council, will be taken forward and explored by Wychavon and discussed at council meetings.

An idea put forward at last year’s event is close to being realised.

A youth bus for Wychavon has been bought and will shortly be re-fitted to provide a safe, informal and engaging place for youngsters, particularly those in the villages, to meet friends and spend their evenings.

Robin Mace, outreach officer from Wychavon, said: “The Youth Summit was a big success and all the students had a fantastic time. They enjoyed meeting the councillors and were amazed at the variety of career opportunities on offer at councils.”
