PERSHORE Town Council have called for any local resident interested in becoming the town crier to make themselves heard.

The shout goes out after the council were contacted by a man from Worcester offering his services.

While Evesham has a town crier, Pershore does not, and the idea was welcomed by councillors at a meeting last week.

Former mayor of Pershore Val Wood said: “I think it would be really nice if we had our own town crier” while Cllr Chris Parsons added: “I think it is an excellent idea.”

According to the Ancient and Honourable Guild of Town Criers the town council can ‘adopt’ a crier who would perform at around 12 events a year.

Clerk Ann Dobbins said: “It’s not something we had considered before but members have had a chance to discuss it and would now like to open up the opportunity to the rest of the town.”

If you think you have what it takes to become Pershore’s next town crier then contact the clerk on 01386 561 561.
