Bengeworth PO on list of closures

FIVE sub post offices in the Vale of Evesham are among those earmarked for closure, it was revealed today.

Offices in Church Lench, Cleeve Prior, Wickhamford, Pinvin and Bengeworth are on the list published today by the Post Office as it opened a six-week local public consultation exercise In neighbouring West Worcestershire, the sub post office at.Elmley Castle is planned to be replaced by a mobile service.

The news provoked fury in Evesham.

Mayor Alan Booth said: “They keep telling us they want to regenerate Bengeworth and then someone comes along and rips the heart out of the place.

“That post office is almost as busy as the main town post office in the High Street with a footfall of around 1,000 a week.

“Pearl Bennett and her staff offer an invaluable service to the public and they have wom many awards for the work they do there.

“This is disgraceful.”
