AROUND 20,000 visitors travelled from near and far to help make this years Pershore Plum Festival one of the best yet.

Pershore was bristling with energy and entertainment all day with events taking place all over the town. Organisers say that it was one of the best plum festivals there has ever been with new attractions such as plum tossing and teddy bear zip wire racing proving to be big hits.

The farmers market on Broad Street was as popular as ever, there was entertainment from morris men at Number 8, an old Pershore slide show, a wartime memorabilia exhibition and a hugely impressive array of classic cars were viewed in Abbey Park.

Angela Tidmarsh, tourism officer at Wychavon District Council said: ”It was absolutely amazing. All parts of the town were busy all the way from the riverside with events like plum tossing to the abbey where there was the most impressive collection of classic cars.

“We believe it was one of the most successful fairs we have ever had with lots of shops open and a large percentage of the retail market as well. It was a wonderful day for Pershore which has hopefully put us on the plum map. We are already looking forward to next year.”

Newly-crowned Pershore Plum Princess Katie Mason-Roberts and her attendant Hermione South judged the shop window competition and selected Special Occasions as the winner, Cottontails came second with Maxine’s Bookshop third.

Pershore councillor Dave Shaw added: “People were telling me that they had never seen so many people in Pershore. We had coach loads come from the black country and all over the place.

“The classic cars had a lot of attention as did the abbey events, the childrens events and the plum sales were so good that we ran out. It was a brilliant day for Pershore.”
